Last Flag Technical FAQ
Here are some common ways to address issues you may encounter.
Update Your Graphics Drivers
If you're experiencing any problems with the game, please verify that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card. Many issues can be solved by downloading the latest drivers from your card's manufacturer. You can get the latest drivers here:
- NVIDIA Cards: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
- AMD Cards: https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html
- Intel Cards: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html
Verifying the Game Files
Sometimes, issues can occur when downloading game updates. This can sometimes prevent the game from running or cause odd graphical issues, such as: garbled textures, pixelated overlays, or missing character models or visual effects.
If you're experiencing anything like the above, try verifying your installation through the game's launcher to replace missing or corrupted files:
Verifying Game Files On Steam:
- Right-click on Last Flag in your Steam Library.
- Select Properties, then select the Installed Files tab.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
You may also try completely uninstalling and re-installing the game. You may need to restart your system for changes to take effect.
For issues with launching the game, or if you see a black screen
- Please make sure your PC matches Last Flag’s minimum specifications. You can get this info with DxDiag: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028644/windows-open-and-run-dxdiagexe
-
If you're using an overlay from Steam, GeForce, etc., please try disabling it.
To disable the overlay on Steam:
- Right-click on Last Flag in your Steam Library
- Select Properties
- Disable the Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game setting
- If the game ran fine for you before, but it’s not working now, try backing up and then deleting your local saved files. This will simply make the game restore its default settings.
- You can find your local saved files by copy/pasting the following into Windows Explorer: %localappdata%\LastFlag\
- Try running Steam in Admin mode: Exit Steam if it's already running, locate your Steam .EXE file, right-click it, and then select Run as Administrator.
-
Disconnect any nonessential USB or Bluetooth devices plugged into your PC.
The game won’t launch. Is there an option to run it with DirectX 11?
Currently, Last Flag supports DirectX 12, and you will also need a dedicated GPU. Please refer to Last Flag’s minimum requirements above.
If you receive an error stating that DirectX 12 is not supported on your system, but you know your PC meets the minimum requirements
If your system meets the minimum requirements to run Last Flag (see above) and you are still receiving this error, please ensure you've downloaded and installed the latest drivers for your graphics card. Some players have reported that this can resolve the error. Instructions to update graphics drivers can be found above.
If the Game Won't Start or Read/Write Save Data
Antivirus software is the most common cause of such issues. To resolve this, in your antivirus software please whitelist the following folders:
The game folder:
- Right-click on Last Flag in your Steam Library
- Select Properties
- Click the Installed Files tab and then click the Browse button to view your installation directory
-
And the save game folder. Find your save game folder by copy/pasting the following into Windows Explorer:
%localappdata%\LastFlag\
Or disable your antivirus software completely.
Please also check whether security permissions are set correctly for your save game folder:
- Right-click the folder and select Properties.
-
On the Security tab, ensure your user account has Full Control or Modify permissions.
For Hitching, Freezing, Lag, Frame Rate, or Performance Issues
- Ensure you have the latest graphics drivers (instructions above).
- Close all other running programs on your PC.
- In-game, under Options > Display, change Graphics Quality to "Low".
- In-game, under Options > Display, try toggling the Fullscreen and/or VSync display settings.
- If you have multiple graphics devices, under Options > Display, try changing from “Auto” to manually select a different device.
- In-game, under Options > Interface, try toggling off Transmit Data.
- Disable any overlays, e.g. Steam, GeForce, etc. (instructions above).
- If you have Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync, please disable them. If available, turn on AMD Anti-Lag.
-
If available, in your graphics device control panel, set Maximum Performance Priority and/or Fast VSync.
Mouse and Controller Input Issues
If your controller is not recognized or stops working mid-session, please try the following:
- Restart the game with the controller connected.
- Toggle the Steam Input setting to the opposite of what it is currently set to (enabled or disabled). To do this, right-click Last Flag in Steam and select Properties. Then select Controller. Using the Override for Last Flag dropdown menu, select the corresponding option.
- Ensure that there is only one controller connected to the PC (wireless or wired).
- Disconnect all controllers and remove all controller devices from the Device Manager. Then, reconnect your primary controller and try again.
- For issues specific to Bluetooth controllers, try turning off Vibration under Options > Accessibility.
If you experience any other issues with mouse input, such as the cursor moving slower than you expect, go to Options > Controls and tune the sensitivity settings.
Please also try disabling any game overlays, e.g.: Steam, GeForce, etc.
Audio Issues
If you are experiencing issues with game audio, please first make sure your audio drivers are up to date:
- Open Windows Device Manager
- Open the Audio Inputs and Outputs list of devices
- Right-click on your audio device and choose Update Driver
If you are using a controller, make sure it is disabled as a sound device.

For most crashes, a detailed report is sent to us automatically. To help us get deeper insights into the root cause of a crash, you can try the following steps to provide more information in the automatic report the next time you experience a crash:
- Install Graphics Tools on your device by following the steps here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/gaming/use-the-directx-runtime-and-visual-studio-graphics-diagnostic-features
- Turn off Steam Overlay or any similar game overlays from GeForce, etc.
- Right-click on Last Flag in your Steam Library and select Properties.
- On the General tab, find the field called Launch Options.
-
Enter the following:
-d3ddebug - Run and play the game as usual. If the crash occurs again, we'll get a detailed report of the issue automatically and work to resolve it.
-
Note: For optimal performance, please remove the -d3ddebug option once the issue has been reported or resolved
